Over The Rainbow Toys was created when the owner Stan, a manager of a toy store in Glastonbury called Imaginarium, which was owned by the Toys R Us company was closed as part of a national downsizing that Toys R Us was initiating.  The entire chain of 36 Imaginarium Toy Stores across the country were closed as well as 146 Kids R Us stores in late 2003 and early 2004.  Stan realized the void that this closing would cause in town, and having learned many aspects of  the toy business in the three years that he had worked for Imaginarium, he along with his wife Carolyn leased a small retail store in town. 

Over the Rainbow Toys opened only two months after the demise of the Imaginarium store.  Along with Stan's wife Carolyn, and a few handpicked former Imaginarium employees,  theysuccessfully operated a new toy store in a populated strip mall located on Main Street in Glastonbury. 

Carrying forward many of the retail and merchandising concepts Stan had learned, he ventured into the areas of purchasing, inventory control, marketing and advertising, accounting and numerous other business tasks that had formally been conducted by a corporate group and support areas.

After two successful years at the original location, the opportunity arose in 2006 to relocate the toy store to a much larger store located within the same plaza.  The store was successfully moved in only three days after a two month construction process. 

 At the new location, Over the Rainbow Toys has been able to offer even a more diversified mix of educational, learning and imaginative play toys than they had been able accomodate at the prior location.  The construction of a larger office, backroom, and stock area, has allowed Over the Rainbow Toys to purchase larger quantities of toys to ensure competitive pricing.

Over The Rainbow Toys offers a bright, kid friendly atmosphere, with a huge selection of all the popular and some obscure brands of toys for kids of all ages (and their parents as well).
